Smashed Windows, Stolen Credit Cards and Political Apathy

A look at a few of the top stories this week on Dacula Patch.

As much as it pains me to admit it, I know that not everyone reads Dacula Patch. If they did, they would certainly know by now not to leave purses and other valuables in their vehicles especially when parked at local gyms, parks, business complexes, etc. While the break-ins are no doubt a boon to local window repair places, they are an unnecessary and completely avoidable occurrence. Please remind your friends and family to exercise caution and take steps to prevent this crime from occurring.

Credit card fraud is another very common crime. No matter how careful you are, you can still end up a victim. Remember to check your statements carefully and immediately report suspicious account activity to your credit card company and the police.

The Dacula City Council will vote next week on the 2012 budget and the amended 2011 budget. Not surprisingly, turnout was very low for the public budget hearing. With the exception of one person who was there as part of a class assignment, the other attendees were friends or family of council members. I hope this means everyone looked at the budget online and was satisfied with what they saw. I am, of course, not so naïve as to believe that but I can hope. In another indication of political apathy, I am sad to report that as of Tuesday night only one person had voted in the Dacula City Council runoff between Tim Montgomery and Hubert Wells. At this rate, a turnout of 100 people would be outstanding.
