Statutory Rape, Warning Shots and Immigration Reform

A look at a few of the top stories this week on Dacula Patch.

I can only imagine how horrified the mom was when she read those 58 pages of explicit Facebook messages between her 14-year-old daughter and a 19-year-old male. She apparently had no idea anything was going on until tipped off by another daughter. It is stories like this that make computer monitoring software look very attractive.

This was a crazy incident altogether. First of all, you do not shoot at or near people running away from a neighbor’s house. Warning shots are something for movies and books, not real life. Bullets, when fired out of a gun, have a nasty tendency to strike and injure people. Don’t fire a gun unless that is your intent. Secondly, you do not shoot at anyone when police are rolling up unless you want to be mistaken as the threat. Additionally, if you are a perp, it is probably better not to hide under the house of another perp. Lastly, if you are a perp, don’t bother hiding in the attic when cops come looking for the perp hiding under your house. Cops are not stupid. They are going to look up there. Just turn yourself in and save yourself some trouble.

Still not in the holiday mood? Perhaps a Christmas movie will help lift your spirits. Kristi Palmer listed her top 10 picks and I listed my top 10 -- what are your favorites?

Dacula teens David Leon and Madison Beene were honored last week at the ninth annual Georgia County and Gospel Music Association Awards. I haven’t had the pleasure of hearing Madison perform yet, but I have heard David and he has an amazing voice. If you get the chance, be sure to catch one of his performances. That way you can say you saw him before he became a Nashville star.
