I read a lot of police reports, but even I was shocked at how this individual reportedly behaved. I sincerely hope this teen decides to change his behavior going forward or he is in for a life of hardship and misery.
Hamilton Mill Resident Reports Gun Stolen
Lock. Your. Doors. Over the past two years, I’ve run dozens of articles on Dacula Patch about car break-ins in which the vehicle owner left valuables -- including guns, computers, large sums of cash and more -- unsecured. Maybe these people normally keep their cars locked and just happened not to do so on the day thieves were passing through their neighborhood. I don’t know. What I do know is that we all need to make a conscious effort not to make our property an attractive target for criminals.
It is sad to think a teenager cannot even take a walk through Dacula Park without running the risk of being assaulted and robbed. This is not the first time an incident of this nature has happened at the park and it probably will not be the last. This is just another reminder of how we all need to exercise basic safety precautions when out and about.
Council Approves Change in Sanitation Fee Billing
The most controversial item on the Dacula City Council agenda this past week was a proposed change in how the city bills residents for sanitation. Forget about whether or not it is right or proper to have sanitation fees billed along with property taxes. The real issue here is how few people actually had anything to say about the matter one way or the other. The city held two public hearings so that residents could voice any concerns. Do you know how many people showed up total for those two meetings? One. Only two people even emailed Mayor Wilbanks about the matter and neither of them live within the city limits. Remember, the best time to get involved with a governmental decision is before the vote is cast. The billing change, by the way, was approved by a 3-1 margin.
Has Technology Extended Your Work Day?
Good grief! You have no idea. One of these days, I may pull a Gallagher on my iPhone. For something that is so cool in so many ways, it is also a curse. Work follows me wherever I go -- 24/7. How about you? Does your smartphone make your life better or is it making you work more than ever?
