I almost included Annie's Song, but it just missed the cut. I have a bunch of country songs that I considered - no Loretta, but some Patsy Cline for sure.

Hey Kristi, I was about to comment and say my #1. pick would be George Jones singing "He Stopped Loving her Today" but you beat me to it. My #2. pick would be Elvis singing "Trying To Get To You." HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!
Kristi Reed (Editor) February 12, 2012 at 11:41 PM
It's hard to beat George Jones. My favorite Elvis song is "Suspicious Minds," but I guess that is really more sad than romantic.
Ed Varn February 13, 2012 at 01:15 AM
I'd like to beat George Jones, Kristi--with a baseball bat. Hate that hurtin' and flirtin' music. :-) Having said that, I nominate "Fooled Around and Fell in Love" by the Elvin Bishop Group, back in the mid 70's. Just the right amount of cheesiness, schmaltz and hummable tune. It's kinda "our song" for myself and Mrs. Ed. Please, no one recommend "Afternoon Delight"!
Kristi Reed (Editor) February 13, 2012 at 01:58 AM
Ed - At least I didn't throw Conway Twitty into the mix! "Fooled Around and Fell in Love" is a good song. As for "Afternoon Delight," I used to sing that all the time when I was a kid. Of course I had no idea what it meant at the time. I also knew all the words to "I'm Gonna Hire a Wino to Decorate Our Home." I think I was about 10 or 11 when that came out -- and parents worry about rap music ...

Well Kristi, speaking of songs we were naive enough to not know the meaning to, there's...."Mama's got a squeezebox she wears on her chest, when Daddy comes home he never gets no rest, 'cause she's playin' all night, and the music's aaaalll right. Mama's got a squeezebox, Daddy never sleeps at night!" lolol
North Georgia Weather February 13, 2012 at 12:53 PM
Actually a squeeze box is an accordion. :-)
Tammy Osier February 13, 2012 at 01:30 PM
Yeah, I knew that...as a 16 year old. But it was one of those songs that had innuendos and double meanings, that my naive self didn't figure out til later on. I always wondered why in the world that woman would keep people up at night with her accordian. Kind of like the telephone man song - that one had double innuendos too- lol

Ever heard of "60-minute man"? That's from 1951! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6UZhPKydKcY Very catchy though!
Johnny Lancaster February 13, 2012 at 08:31 PM
Kristi, Did you know that "60-minute man" was ban on some radio stations and jukeboxes in the Atlanta area in 1951. I liked Red Foley's version the best.
Kristi Reed (Editor) February 13, 2012 at 09:15 PM
I did not know that, but I am not surprised. We actually had the Risque Blues cassette featuring "60-minute Man," "You Can't Keep a Good Man Down" and other equally not-suitable-for-all-audiences songs.
