In this week's "Three Questions With the Mayor," Dacula Mayor Jimmy Wilbanks provides an update on the latest city news and discusses his favorite president.
Dacula Patch: What's new in Dacula this week?
Mayor Wilbanks: This week appears to be sort of a time out for happenings at City Hall. So let’s turn to the week of the 18th since it is a short week. Monday, Feb. 18, 2013 is Presidents’ Day, and the City Hall will be closed that day. The next day, Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA-10) will be conducting a town hall meeting at City Hall from 6-8 p.m.
Dacula Patch: What is something Dacula residents need to know this week?
Mayor Wilbanks: Congressman Broun is Dacula’s representative in the U. S. Congress. He has announced his intention to run for the U. S. Senate to replace retiring Senator Saxby Chambliss. If you need to hear from Rep. Broun, please consider attending the town hall meeting.
Dacula Patch: Presidents' Day is next week. Which president is your favorite and why?
Mayor Wilbanks: Every President has good points and bad points. My favorite modern President was Harry Truman. I admired President Truman for saying what needed to be said without regard to whichever group he might have been offensive. We have allowed “political correctness” to overshadow good sense, stifle debate, and destroy the character of those with whom we have differences. Respectful debate is the way to present opposing ideas; we don’t need to “politically” slander or murder those who have different opinions and ideas.
