Three Questions With the Mayor: DRI Review, Road Project Update and Fall Foliage

Dacula Mayor Jimmy Wilbanks answers questions about our community.

In this week's "Three Questions With the Mayor," Dacula Mayor Jimmy Wilbanks provides an update on the latest city news and discusses his favorite place to view fall foliage.

Dacula Patch: What's new in Dacula this week?

Mayor Wilbanks:  The Atlanta Regional Commission has made the following public finding in the Peak at University Parkway DRI review that the project is in the best interest of the region and of the state. The City still awaits GRTA’s review. Once those are complete, the annexation and rezoning of the property can occur.

Dacula Patch: What is something Dacula residents need to know?

Mayor Wilbanks: Residents in the Freeman’s Walk subdivision and residents who live near or along Superior Drive, Mobley Drive, and Laura Lane should be aware that the City is beginning the reclamation and resurfacing projects along those streets. We ask you indulgence as these paving projects go forward. You should NOT park your vehicles on the roadway of any of these streets while the projects are being complete. The contractors will maintain at least one lane for travel and all driveway cuts during the process. Please pay attention to those who are controlling traffic flow during this period. These are City SPLOST projects and represent a portion of the transportation projects for which you voted in 2009. They are also a part of the City’s 5-year transportation improvement plan to reclaim, repair and resurface streets based on the most needed first ratings.

Dacula Patch: It is finally starting to look like fall in Dacula. Where is your favorite local place to enjoy fall foliage?

Mayor Wilbanks: Fall color is here, and leaves are falling. I like to go up to North Georgia mountains to see the leaf change. I don’t always get to go, because the fall is a busy time for the City. The budget work/hearings and getting ready for a new year kind of get in the way of looking at leaf color.
