UFO Sighting, Armed Robbery and Gambling Push

A look at a few of the notable stories this week on Dacula Patch.

Is it a bird? A plane? A UFO? Most likely it was a meteor. A lot of people seem fascinated by the thought that aliens might be visiting our planet. I hope no aliens are visiting. Based on what I’ve seen in movies and on television, alien visits tend to end badly. Let’s face it, either they are peaceful explorers or they are planning an attack. So, I’m just going to content myself with the thought that this sighting was related to the Lyrids meteor shower and nothing more.

The Exxon station on Braselton Highway at Mineral Springs Road was robbed last week. Thankfully no one was hurt, but the incident serves as a disturbing reminder that we have desperate criminals even out here in the suburbs. Stay alert.

I think we would all be appalled if we knew how often illegal drugs were moved up and down I-85.  You know law enforcement cannot possibly find all of it. It isn’t as if drug dealers travel around with signs on their cars such as “Buy Weed Here” or something like that. In this case, an alert officer spotted a vehicle with illegal window tint and noticed two other minor traffic violations. During the stop, the officer asked questions, kept his eyes and nose open and ended up arresting three women on drug charges. This all happened near the Hamilton Mill Road exit. Keep that in mind when you are traveling in the area and report any suspicious activity to police.

If you didn’t have a chance to join the live chat with Georgia Department of Labor experts last week, you can still review the transcript for valuable resume writing advice. If you have not prepared a resume in a while or have never prepared a resume, then you will probably find the information extremely useful.

Dacula Patch columnist Ray Newman took a look at what is fast becoming a hot topic in our area -- gambling. Gwinnett County could end up as the site of a major gambling complex. What are your thoughts?
