Divine Intersections: Why You Should Pray Big

What and how we pray reflects what we believe about God.

What we pray for reflects our belief about God.

When we pray small prayers, it shows we don’t believe that God is for us and that He wants come through for us in big ways. Far too often our prayers are for things that we can accomplish on our own … just in case God doesn’t show up. Our small prayers reflect a lack of faith in our big God.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying we shouldn’t pray for small things. God invites us to allow Him to work in the small details of our lives. I’ve written here about how God concerns Himself with the small stuff in our lives. I’m simply saying that just because we pray for small things doesn’t mean that our prayers need to be small.

When we pray prayers that are impossible to accomplish on our own, we show that we believe God is for us and that He is waiting and willing to come through for us. Big, bold, audacious prayers allow God the opportunity to intersect our lives. We need to pray big, bold prayers so that when it happens we know that is was only because God did it.

The greatest moments in life are the miraculous moments when human impotence and divine omnipotence intersect — and they intersect when we draw a circle around the impossible situations in our lives and invite God to intervene. ~ Mark Batterson, The Circle Maker
