Buckhead Christian Ministry Renames Building

25th anniversary ceremony honors $1 million gift from Stuart and Eulene Murray Foundation

Tuesday celebrated 25 years of service and entered a new era of helping others.

The BCM in a special ceremony renamed its building for Stuart and Eulene Murray, in honor of a $1 million gift from the Stuart and Eulene Murray Foundation that will allow the organization to establish an endowment fund and increase its efforts to help people down on their luck. The donation, the largest in BCM's history, will be distributed over four years.

Senior Pastor Dr. Gil Watson spoke at the rededication ceremony, with the message that BCM's work reflects the humanity of all, whether rich or poor. The organization helps "the down and out," he said, but "most of us in Buckhead are the up and out."

After the ceremony, the organization held its annual appreciation dinner at .

Before the ceremony, BCM held an open house at the building at 2847 Piedmont Road. A variety of services are provided at the building through a dedicated group of volunteers. Homeless people can come by each day to use the phone and computer and receive snack bags, a volunteer said. The C. Spencer Godfrey Food Pantry serves more than 8,000 a year.

The organization provides financial assistance to working people who have an emergency, transitional housing and a money management course. BCM also operates a thrift store.
