Dessert First! Why You Should Stop to Celebrate Even the Small Victories

A few days ago, we learned that my daughter was awarded Honorable Mention in a Countywide Photography Exhibition!  Needless to say, we are super proud of her!

News like this calls for going out to dinner!

So, where else could everyone get exactly what they want to eat?  Golden Corral!

My son and I get to eat all of the starches we want, while my wife and daughter eat as healthy as they want!

After having listened to a wonderful book this week, our dinner started off much differently than it had during past visits. 

The book, 20,000 Days and Counting: The Crash Course for Mastering your Life Right Now, is written by Robert D. Smith.  If you have not read or listened to this book yet, I urge you to do so!

To paraphrase Smith’s advice in Chapter 7, by eating dessert first, we get right to the celebration! If we don’t stop to celebrate the small victories along the way, the celebrations simply do not happen. 

The Wolfe family took Smith’s advice to heart!

I started my meal off with a slice of chocolate pie.

My daughter began her meal with a couple of chocolate dipped marshmallows, as did my son.

My wife began her meal with a Golden Corral biscuit, with butter – considered a dessert by many!

While we were at Golden Corral to celebrate, having dessert first emphasized it, and allowed us to drive the point home that we were proud of our daughter!

There are some days when success tastes just like a chocolate pie from Golden Corral!

While it may have taken me a while to figure it out, I am glad that I had the opportunity to put the practice into action on my 17,145th. day!
