Moving beyond risky fossil fuels

In the past week, we have had two breaches in fossil fuel safety. Let us move past fossil fuels!

Yesterday Plant Bowen, a coal-fired power plant near Cartersville, was rocked by an explosion.  Luckily, no one sustained major injuries.
Last weekend in Arkansas, Exxon Mobil’s Pegasus pipeline spilled an estimated 12,000 barrels of oil being transported from the tar sands of Western Canada.
In the past week, we have had two breaches in fossil fuel safety. Though neither caused major injury to people, both disrupted the surrounding communities and harmed the environment. Expanding our country’s reliance on fossil fuels no longer makes sense, while we ignore our renewable fuel options. If we build another coal-fired power plant in Georgia or expand the Keystone pipeline, then we will raise the risks of fossil fuel accidents. Let us move past fossil fuels! Elected officials, make renewable energy a priority in Georgia!
