Capture Those Back to School Moments!

A couple photography tips to help capture those back-to-school memories.

With school starting next week, I know a lot of parents who want to make sure to capture the moment by taking photos of their kids.  In honor of that, I thought I would share a couple of quick tips to help you get the photos you want to treasure forever. These tricks of the trade can help any photographer and any camera get better photos.

First, seek out natural light. Whether through a big window in your house or in shade on your porch – natural light will provide a much better photo than using a flash.

Second, avoid clutter in the background. It seems so simple – but it really makes a difference. One of my all-time favorite photos of my daughter is unfortunately distracting because you see a sippy cup and cords in the background.  If the background had been clear, it would’ve been an image worthy of hanging on the wall. I still love the photo, but it is not one I would choose to frame and hang.

Hopefully these two tips will help you get those back-to-school photos you want.   Of course now that I’ve shared these, I do want everyone to remember that the most important thing is to be a part of the moment, and second to that is capturing the moment.  If you need to put the camera down to be a part of getting ready for school, then put the camera down. If you need to use flash or can’t control the background, just take the picture.  The memories are what we really treasure.

If you want to add some fun, check out ideas on a site like Pinterest – I’ve seen some great ones for other ways to make the photos extra special that I can’t wait to try out myself.
