Thinking Beyond the 8x10 Frame

Wall display ideas for your home using gallery wrap canvases.

You’ve had your pictures taken – now what?  The next step is to figure out where in your house you would like to display them. We personally have portraits in our bedroom, up our stairs, in our playroom and in my office as well. We even have portraits in the guest bathroom. Truly, portraits can fit most anywhere there is a wall in a home. I often find myself searching for wall display ideas on Pinterest, and there are ideas for every space.

One of my personal favorites for a wall display is canvas. Gallery wrap canvases come ready to hang on your wall and are very versatile. Options for your gallery wrap include wrapping the image around the frame or picking a solid color for your wrap to unify all the canvases.  Another option is to print an ornamental frame on the canvas itself. All of these options can look spectacular on a wall.

As examples, I’m including two wall display options that we have up in our house.  First up is our master bedroom. We had a space that was wide but not high above our bed, and we wanted something that looked very finished and traditional, while filling the space. We had trouble finding frames we liked, and so we decided to go with canvas. We went with three 20x20 gallery wrap canvases, printed with an ornamental frame that coordinated with each other as well as our bedding. I just love how it came out, and it added the perfect finishing touch to our room.

In my office I wanted a canvas wall display of my children – one which I can add on to in the future as they grow.  To start we went with four 8x8 gallery wrap canvases, alongside a 20x16 – all with a brown wrap to unify the grouping. I am already picturing the 20x30 that I’ll eventually add to this display!

If you have questions, or need an opinion, ask your photographer. In addition to taking the portraits, many photographers help design walls or know which photos might look best where.
