Register Now for May 19 HMUMC Family Fun Run at Little Mulberry Park

Hamilton Mill United Methodist Church Family Fun Run Chair, Dawn Graeser has organized a great way for your family to stay active and raise money to cure childhood cancer and stock the church's food pantry.

The Hamilton Mill UMC eighth annual 5K Family Fun Run/Walk on May 19 was created by the church’s wellness committee to encourage our community to stay active as a family, and raise money for childhood cancer. Dawn Graeser, the race chair, along with her dedicated team has organized an awesome morning for your family that encourages healthy living and a giving sprit all while having a ton of fun.

“We are focused on wellness and raising money for CURE,” Graeser said. “Pastor Dave wanted to remind us not to forget the spirituality aspect about the event so we turned it into a fun run. Our goal is to promote spiritual, physical and mental wellness.”

The race will start at Hamilton Mill UMC on Pine Road in Dacula, and loop around . The registration fee is $5 per person, with a $10 maximum per family. For you serious runners, the race will also be timed by Runners Fit, with awards for the overall male and female winners. The goal for this event is to raise wellness awareness, and encourage families to stay active together.

“It is a race full of families,” Graeser said. “We do have a clock for competitive runners, but when you look around, you will see lots of families with strollers and joggers. We encourage people to be active whether by preparing for this 5K or just by enjoying the run and being inspired to come out and walk in the park throughout the summer as a family. We want to help people be and stay healthy as a family by encouraging each other.”

All proceeds from the race will be donated to CURE Childhood Cancer and the Hamilton Mill UMC Food Pantry. CURE Childhood Cancer in Atlanta is a nonprofit cancer research foundation dedicated to finding cures for childhood cancer.

“We decided to cut back on the registration fee so more families could particulate,” Graeser explained. “We wanted to make it free, but we there were many operating costs like police for safety at the event that we needed. So we calculated a number to cover cost, but we are still accepting donations because we truly do want to make a meaningful donation to the CURE. This is a wonderful organization, and that is what we are focused on as a congregation, reaching out to help others.”

Graeser and her crew are also having a little fun with their donations for the Hamilton Mill UMC Pantry.

“We will have a dunk tank as a way to collect food for the Panty,” Graeser explained. “For each non-perishable food item that you bring to the run you will get the chance to dunk Pastor Dave in the dunk tank. We wanted to do this because food donations for the Pantry are always low in the summer. We hope to stock their shelves. Last year we collected over 400 pounds of food.”
