Caution Children at Play

With summer approaching, more children will be outdoors. What can you do as a parent and a driver to keep area children safe?

Last year I was sitting in the driveway hanging out with the kids when one their balls rolled into the street. Of course, we have tried to teach our kids to look both ways when crossing the road and in this case my daughter did exactly what she should have.

Maddy (10 year old) went to the end of the driveway, looked both ways and saw no cars were coming so she went across the street to get her basketball and returned safe and sound.  No more than two or three seconds afterwards, some reckless driver sped around the corner going way too fast and if she had been in the street at the time, there would have been dire consequences.

In my opinion this driver would have had no chance to stop his car in time to avoid hitting my daughter. It scared the living heck out of me so I got to thinking. What can I do to eliminate or at least attempt to slow drivers down that travel in and around my street and within the neighborhood? Well, I have seen, like most of us the "Caution Children at Play" signs around town and it got me come up with my own solution.

So here is what I did and I want to offer it to any Dacula resident at no cost. I have printed up signs that can be put at the end of the driveway that tell drivers there are kids around and they need to be careful. I have offered them to my neighbors in Hamilton Mill and we see a lot of them on bright sunny days.

If these get one person to slow down just enough to gain control of their vehicle and avoid killing them or others it is well worth the expense.

Yes, I admit, I have a small logo on the sign of my business and so it is a marketing thing but at that the same time it serves as a reminder to SLOW DOWN folks.

Want one? Email me at Matt@MattHermes.com and I will arrange to get one to you at no cost.

Hope it helps.
