Real Estate Q&A #1 - Answers to your real estate questions

Have a question about real estate you want answered?

I get asked real estate related questions all the time and I wanted to post some of the most common questions I receive and answer them for you. Some are pretty easy and straight forward. Others take a little more explanation. Have a question about real estate you want answered? Q: I am looking to purchase my first home and get out of a rental situation and want to know if I need to pay the real estate agent a commission that helps me with my purchase?

A: First let me say congratulations on your decision to buy instead of renting. Now is the best time to invest in your future and real estate is a great way to do it. In most if not all cases, the commission that is paid to your real estate agent is paid by the Seller not you. There are some cases where you may be responsible but in my 10 years in the business and the hundreds of homes I have sold, a Buyer has never paid a commission to a Buyers agent.

Q: If I call the agent who has their sign in the yard they are working for me right?

Β A: NO. The Listing Agent who you called on the sign has a fiduciary responsibility to represent the Seller (His or Her client) in the transaction in many if not all cases. Hire a real estate agent that works for YOU to help negotiate the best deal possible and remember you will not pay for the service, the Seller does.
