Heavy Rains and Isolated Tornadoes Possible with Tropical Storm Lee

Widespread rainfall beginning late Sunday and lasting through Wednesday with very heavy rainfall amounts and the potential for flash flooding will be the story for the next several days.

Tropical Storm Lee is just now coming ashore in Louisiana with sustained winds of 60 mph and is moving North at 3 mph. Lee will soon begin to turn northeast and follow a path that will take him over Birmingham and northwest Georgia. Right now the Atlanta National Weather Service is calling for 3-5" here in Gwinnett and 5-7" in north Georgia, with some areas receiving even higher amounts. You can hear the NWS storm update here. A Flood Watch will probably be issued tomorrow.

As the storm gets close on Monday and Tuesday, isolated tornadoes will be a possibility. The locations for tornadoes are difficult to predict in systems like this as they spring up quickly and disappear just as fast. They are usually very weak and short-lived but can still cause significant damage.

So widespread rainfall beginning late Sunday and lasting through Wednesday with very heavy rainfall amounts and the potential for flash flooding will be the story for the next several days.
