Dacula Obituaries: May 15

A listing of recent Dacula area death notices.

Heung Sung Park, age 58, of Dacula, died on Friday, May 6, following an extended illness. Funeral services were held on Monday, May 9, at the Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel with Rev. Jae Dong Ko officiating. Interment followed in the Hamilton Mill Memorial Gardens.

Park is survived by his wife, Ho Jung Park, Dacula; son, Joon Su Park, Atlanta and daughter, Hyui Su “Jessica” Park, Durham, N.C.

Park has lived in the Metro Atlanta area for the past 11 years and was a member of Victory World Church. He worked as a web developer for SunTrust Bank.

Matthew David Essex

Matthew David “Matt” Essex, age 36, of Dacula, died suddenly on May 10. A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at the Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel. Rev. Duke Forrester officiated.

Matt is survived by his children: Destiny Essex, David Essex and Danielle Essex, McDonough; parents, Tom and Margie Essex, of Clarksville; brother and sister-in-law, Mark and Tonya Essex, Bethlehem; grandmother, Reba Foskey, Savannah; two nieces and one Nephew.

Matt was born on February 1, 1975, in Ypsilanti, MI, and became a lifelong resident of the metro Atlanta area. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and a member of .

 

Eleanor Jane McCluskey

Eleanor Jane McCluskey, age 76 of Buford, died Monday, May 2, following a brief illness. Mrs. McCluskey’s remains were cremated. A graveside memorial service was held Friday, May 13, at Hamilton Mill Memorial Gardens. Dr. Dave Davis officiated. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Mrs. McCluskey was recently preceded in death by her husband, Robert Perry McCluskey. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Kim and Frances Starr, Camarillo, Cal.; Jeff and Kimberly Starr, Lawrenceville; Todd and Becky Starr, Buford; and Blair and Casey Starr, Dacula. She is also survived by stepchildren, Michael and Pam McCluskey, Smiths Station, Ala. and Deborah Teno, Malibu, Cal; thirteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Eleanor was born in Germantown, Penn. and lived most of her life in California, but had lived in metro Atlanta for the past seven years. Eleanor was a retired purchasing agent for the U.S. Navy Civil Service.

Doris Lee Hawkins (Miss Dot) Banks

Doris Lee Hawkins Banks (Miss Dot) age 84 of Snellville passed away on Monday, May 9, 2011. Mrs. Banks was born August 25, 1926, the daughter of William Thomas Hawkins and Minnie Everett Hawkins. Doris grew up in Gwinnett County where she met the love of her life, the late Rev. Cedric Banks. They were married June 14, 1946. Mrs. Banks was devoted to her God and her family. Her greatest joy was being surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at Sharon Baptist Church in Loganville with Rev. Micah Green, Rev. Eric Green, Rev. Jared Green and Rev. Lamar Beason officiating. The burial followed in the church cemetery.

Banks is survived by daughters and son-in-law: Mr. and Mrs. Merton (Phyllis) DeMerchant of Canton; Debbie Green of Loganville; sons and daughters-in-law: Lewis C. Banks, Jr. of Rome; Mr. and Mrs. Warren (Denise) Banks of Dacula, Mr. and Mrs. Hal (Lisa) Banks of Woodstock; Mr. and Mrs. Mark (Sheila) Banks of Loganville; Tim Banks, Duluth; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Lucy Stancil of Dacula, Mr. and Mrs. John (Joyce) Greenway of Winder; brother-in-law: Mr. and Mrs. Fred (Barbara) Banks of Hoschton; numerous nieces and nephews and loving friends.
