More HOT Lanes Coming to the Metro Area - Good Idea or Waste of Taxpayer Dollars?

The new barrier separated, reversible lanes will be built on I-75 south of Atlanta.

A $288 million project will bring 12 miles of HOT lanes to I-75 on the southside of Atlanta. (http://www.dot.ga.gov/informationcenter/pressroom/PressReleases/BidAwards-July13.pdf)

The toll lanes will be built between State Route 155/McDonough Road and State Route 138/Stockbridge Highway in Henry and Clayton counties. Work will begin later this year and is expected to be completed in 2016.

Two lanes will be added in the center median from SR138 in Clayton to just north of SR20. Unlike the I-85 toll lanes in Gwinnett, the lanes will be barrier separated and reversible.

The Peach Pass, which is used to access the I-85 toll lanes, will also be used for the I-75 managed lanes. Watch an animated demonstration of the proposed toll lanes here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4IR9PNMGHZg

Do you think the I-85 toll lanes have improved traffic in Gwinnett? Do you use the toll lanes? Are you glad to see these lanes being added to I-75? Will three years of proposed construction in this corridor make you take backroads the next time you need to travel south of Atlanta? Speak out in the comments below.
