The “Curiously” Stupid Bank!

Okay, maybe they are not stupid.  They seem to be doing quite well for themselves as I am hearing and seeing their commercials and advertising all too often now.  I don’t even want to write the name of the bank because it drives me absolutely bonkers just hearing it.  Kind of like fingernails on a chalkboard.  I refuse to step foot in this bank, even if they were handing out free $100 bills.  I’d rather walk on a tight rope over the Grand Canyon on live TV than walk into their lobby.  And if someone gave me a personal check from this bank I would more likely use it as toilet paper than cash it.

According to Wikipedia, in 1908 Fifth National Bank and Third National bank merged in Cincinnati, OH.  What happened to Fourth National Bank no one knows.  At the time prohibitionists ideas were gaining popularity so they decided not to go with Third Fifth Bank because it might be construed as a reference with three “fifths” of alcohol.  So they eventually decided to go the other way.

Now, you don’t have to have a degree in Actuarial Science to know that five thirds is not a true fraction, it’s really one and two thirds.  The fact that this bank displays its name as an improper fraction is a disservice to all us simple mathematicians.  Why not remove the fraction all together and simply call it the 5th & 3rd Bank?  Using the & instead of the fraction makes much more sense to me.  I would even accept the One and Two Thirds Bank.  But my favorite, and what I will be calling this bank from here on out:
