'We the Government' Is Replacing 'We the People'

Government is never too big for the "We the government" crowd.

The first three words of the United States Constitution are: “We the people.” Every person holding elective office in our nation assures us that upon taking the oath of office they will uphold the Unites States Constitution as the document on which our nation is founded.

The oath of office was administered on Sunday last, and then a more formal public enactment of that oath was witnessed by millions of people last week in Washington as President Obama began his second four-year term as President of the United States of America.

It is the usual practice and tradition that the newly oath taking President deliver his inaugural speech to the nation. Instead of assuring the nation that it will be “We the people” going forward in this second term of his administration, President Obama announced it will be “We the government.” It is not just an ideological shift or change in the way of thinking for President Obama causing him to use the term “We the government.” That statement embodies the full mindset, worldview, and political ideological make up of our president and government leaders.

Living by the truth that when we listen long enough to a politician we will hear what they really believe, we cannot say this announcement is any surprise to those who have been informed or paying attention in the campaigns and terms in office of President Obama. We can be sure he is telling us the truth about his belief system and his view of governance and how it is to be carried out.

There is no government too big or too intrusive into the lives of citizens for those who operate from the view expressed by the phrase “We the government.” The use of this phrase is not just a sleight of hand or a misstatement. This mindset prevails among those who believe that “We the people” cannot govern and have no clue as to how they want to live their lives. The big government crowd is sure they know better how to spend our money. They also are certain that the freedoms we have lived by and with for generations were designed to enslave certain segments of the culture.

President Ronald Reagan reminded us the government is not the solution to our needs, government is the problem. For too long there have been those in elective office who see the power of government and how it can be used against the citizens to force them to do as the big government crowd wants.

During the first four years of Obama's presidency, some people continued to call for careful attention to be paid to his actions. It would seem at this point, the four years ahead of us will require more attention than ever to what will be taking place in Washington by President Obama.

From where I stand, the time is now when we must make the move back to our founding roots of “We the people.”
