Animal Shelter Offering Discounted Adoptions Through July

During the month of July, the Gwinnett animal shelter will host a special pet adoption event.

According to a news release, during the "Adoption Explosion" event, the Animal Welfare and Enforcement Section will reduce its fees.  The normal adoption fee of $90 will be reduced to $40 for dogs and puppies and $30 for cats and kittens. For those wishing to adopt two cats or kittens, the fee will be reduced to $40 total for both.

The fee includes the spay/neuter of each animal, a microchip, and the first round of shots.

The adoption event ends Saturday, July 27, with a block party from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the release stated.

The block party will include include a car show, a live DJ, inflatable jump houses and games for kids, a craft exhibit for animal lovers, and a cookout.  The cookout will be a fundraiser for the Society of Human Friends, which runs the spay/neuter clinic at the shelter, and is responsible for the reduced fees during this event. Also, food will be for sale at the block party.

The Animal Welfare and Enforcement Center is at 884 Winder Highway, Lawrenceville (Phone: 770-339-3200).
