$1.4M Worth of Fraudulent Medicaid Claims Lands Snellville Couple in Jail

The couple operated a daycare called "Give Mom a Break," as well as a physical therapy center.

According to the Georgia Attorney General, Oluyemisi and Olufemi Afuape, a Snellville couple, were indicted on one count of Medicaid fraud and one count of conspiracy to defraud the State.

Oluyemisi is a licensed physical therapist, while her husband, Olufemi, is her business partner. They co-owned and operated Zion Rehab, as well as a daycare business called “Give Mom a Break.”

They are accused of exploiting underprivileged children.

The couple allegedly offered free daycare to local, needy families, then submitted claims to the Georgia Medicaid program for charges that were not provided, like physical, occupational and speech therapy services.

The amount they received totaled over $1.4 million.

The couple could spend up to ten years in prison and pay a fine of $10,000.

Thanks to selfish prigs like these people it's costing medicade so much that those who honestly deserve it are going to have benefits cut. A fine of $10,000. where is the 1.4 million, sieze their assets and put them on the street.

Agreed, Diana. That fine is NOTHING if they made $1.4 million. They need to pay all that back and then some.

Three kinds prevalent of fraud should be pursued with vigor by the authorities and penalties increased: 1. This kind of Medicaid fraud 2. Medicare fraud 3. Employers misclassifying workers as 1099 employees to avoid paying social security and Medicare taxes Special law enforcement units should be set up to do this by the state and fines increased until this fraud decreases.
