Alert Verizon Employee Uncovers iPhone Case Thefts

Inside Police Reports: The woman arrested willingly gave up the evidence at the counter.

An alert employee at a Hamilton Mill Road wireless store uncover caught a thief who willingly gave up the evidence.

A woman was in the Verizon Wireless store at 2680 Hamilton Mill Road trying to purchase iPhones, according to the Gwinnett County Police incident report dated Feb. 25. When the woman was applying for a contract with Verizon, the employee asked if she wanted to also purchase cases for the iPhones.

She said, no, she already had three cases. The employee “thought having cases for the phones before even owning [them] was suspicious,” the report stated.

So, he asked the woman if he could see them.  He scanned the bar codes on the boxes and found that all three had been stolen — two from a location in Oakwood, Ga., the other at Hamilton Mill.

The woman admitted she knew the cases were stolen when she got them from a family member.

The three “Otter” box cases were valued at $240.

Corina Campbell of Flowery Branch was arrested and charged with theft by receiving.
