Cops Bust 3 Gwinnett Grow Houses; Arrest Son of Late DeKalb Sheriff-Elect

The Gwinnett Metro Task Force have arrested a man who allegedly operated three marijuana grow houses in the Dacula and Snellville areas.

Michael Gerrard Brown of Dacula is charged with manufacturing marijuana (3 charges), trafficking marijuana, and possession with 1,000 feet of a school. He is being held without bond at the Gwinnett County jail.

Brown is the son of slain DeKalb County sheriff-elect Derwin Brown, who was killed in 2000 just days before taking office, the AJC reported.

Gwinnett Sheriff’s deputy Shannon Volkodav said Michael Brown was arrested Thursday, May 15, when Task Force investigators followed up on information there may be drugs at 2386 Hidden Lane near Snellville.

“While at the residence, investigators encountered Michael Gerrard Brown, who leased the home,” Volkodav stated in a media release. “Investigators at the scene noted a strong odor of marijuana and obtained a search warrant.”

The search uncovered 414 marijuana plants growing at the residence.

Further investigation led to search warrants at two other residences.

Brown’s primary residence at 3016 Overlook Pass near Dacula was searched, where a grow room was partially dismantled and a small amount of loose marijuana was found, Volkodav said.

Investigators said Brown leased a third house at 3466 San Antonio Drive near Snellville, where 251 marijuana plants were seized.

Additional charges are possible.
