Craigslist Transaction Leads to Simulated 'Gunfire'

Unhappy purchaser makes threatening gestures at seller's father.

A Dacula man said he felt threatened and worried for his safety and that of his family after a Craigslist transaction ended badly.

According to the victim, his son sold a phone using Craigslist. The buyer, described as a Hispanic male roughly 5-foot-5 and weighing 180 pounds, came to the victim’s Hamilton Mill home to complete the transaction. On March 14 -- a week after the initial purchase -- the buyer returned to the home complaining that the speaker on the phone was not working.

Though the buyer admitted the speaker was working when he purchased the phone, he insisted the seller should refund his money or pay to have the phone repaired. The victim advised the buyer to go to the Apple store and provided the buyer with the store address.

At that point, the buyer allegedly pointed his hands at the victim as if he were holding guns. The victim told police the man then pointed at the house and the sky while saying something in Spanish. The victim felt he was being threatened and said he stepped forward to “defend his family.” The buyer left the premises, but the victim expressed concern that the man would return.

The victim was able to provide police with a phone number for the buyer’s wife, but did not know the man’s name.
