Customer Upset Over Price of Auto Repair Accused of Theft of Services

The man reportedly drove his car out of the service bay without paying his bill.

A Dacula man reportedly became increasingly upset over the cost of his auto repair bill despite the manager agreeing to charge him a lower price.

On Dec. 14, Gwinnett County Police were called to the America's Service Station on Braselton Highway after the man refused to pay the repair bill. The officer informed the man he had to pay for the repairs made to his vehicle and could take the business to civil court if he was unhappy with the services rendered. The officer left the scene, but a short time later, another officer was dispatched to the business.

"[An employee] stated that after [the officer] left his business, the [Dacula man] had gone into the bay of the repair shop and gotten into his car and drove it away without paying any of his bill," the officer wrote in the incident report.

The employee explained that after the first officer had left, he tried to negotiate with the Dacula man and had even dropped the labor charges off the bill, leaving only the cost for parts. The Dacula man reportedly argued the bill was still too high even though he had, according to the employee, agreed to pay the cost of repairs when he dropped the vehicle off at the business.

The employee said he did not want to press charges at the time of the incident but would speak with the store owners to see if they wished to do so.

According to the employee, the Dacula man has been a customer of the store for several years. The amount of the unpaid bill is $238.13.

The case is listed as active.
