Dacula High School Student Dies After Medical Emergency at School

DHS Principal Donald Nutt announces death of a student.

A Dacula High School student died Tuesday after experiencing a "medical emergency" during the third period of classes, according to a letter from Dacula High School Principal Donald Nutt posted on the school's website.

Teachers and school nurses immediately responded to the student, and 911 was called. The student was transported to the hospital by emergency responders. According to school district spokesman Jorge Quintana, the student was an eleventh grade boy.

“A number of students were in the gym when this incident occurred, others may have seen the ambulance on campus and others may have heard about this situation. As you know, we are a very tight-knit, caring school community. A loss like this touches not just our students but others throughout the school and community,” Nutt's letter said, adding that counselors were available throughout the day to assist students.
