Drunken Argument Over Money Leads to Arrests

Late night confrontation at McDonald's sends two to county lock-up.

A couple ended up spending the evening in jail after a public confrontation at the on June 30.

A police sergeant was flagged down by a concerned citizen who witnessed the couple arguing in the parking lot. The sergeant saw the couple pointing fingers at each other and yelling. He then saw the male, later identified as Luis Candela Soto, 29, of 311 Overlook Park Lane in Lawrenceville, patting the pockets of the female, later identified as Victoria Hughes, 26, 2451 Cedar Drive in Lawrenceville.

A second officer arrived and interviewed Soto. Soto accused Hughes of taking money from him without permission. Hughes denied taking the money and said the cash in her purse was not his.

The officers noticed a strong odor of alcoholic beverage coming from both subjects. According to the police report, both subjects also had “glossy blood shot red eyes” and both admitted drinking at a local bar.

Due to their behavior and intoxicated condition, Soto and Hughes were placed under arrest for public intoxication and disorderly conduct. Both were transported to the Gwinnett County Detention Center.
