UPDATED: Teen Hospitalized After Pool Incident Gets Visit From 'Guardian Angel'

An 18-year-old teen was hospitalized June 11 after being pulled from the Millview pool in the Hamilton Mill subdivision in Dacula, Ga.

UPDATED at 2:45 p.m. on June 13

Corey Hall, the father of the 18-year-old teen hospitalized June 11 after an incident at the Millview pool in Hamilton Mill subdivision, said his son Jamyal is expected to make a full recovery. Describing his son as a "father's dream come true," Hall said Jamyal is now talking and, as most teens do, texting.

During a June 12 conversation, Hall expressed his gratitude for the outpouring of concern and especially for the people who performed CPR at the pool. Hall said the efforts of the individuals at the pool mean that he is still the grateful father of two boys.

One of the individuals who came to Jamyal's assistance visited him in the hospital on June 13.

In a June 13 email to Dacula Patch, Hall described the young lady as his son's "guardian angel" and added, "Ashley and her mom dropped by to check on Jamyal. He is breathing on his own now, and my friend Charli is bring him a cheeseburger for dinner :-) the Dr. Believes that Jamyal might be able to go home this weekend!!!!  We knew that he was alright when he started writing us messages on the iPad. Before then we were all trying to decipher his hand gestures like in a game of charades."

One of the other individuals involved in assisting Jamyal was Hamilton Mill resident Wendy Halperin, a surgical nurse.

Halperin was sitting just a few feet away when lifeguards pulled Jamyal from the pool.

"I'm just glad I was in the right place at the right time," Halperin said.

Halperin said she has been following updates on Jamyal's condition and was relieved to learn he is progressing well.

"That is the best news I could possibly hear," she said.

According to Hall, his son does not remember much about the incident. Jamyal had held his breath under water three times without incident. It was the fourth time, however, which proved to be a problem. Hall said his son does not remember going into the water the last time.

"Thank you to everyone who prayed for him and our family. GOD is definitely in the healing business :-)," Hall wrote.

Hall had previously posted an update on Dacula Patch's initial report of the incident.

The update, posted in the comments, states:

This is Corey Hall Jamyal's dad. My friend Charli told me that a lot of people were concerned with my son's status. I am happy to say that Janyal had been responding to our questions with nods. He even gestured that he wanted to go home, which made my wife and I very happy, because m he still has his sence of humor. The doctors suspect that he has sustained some lung damage due to his initial x-ray of his lungs. Jamyal is a honor Society Inductee who has been on the honor roll every year since elementary school, He has even received a financial scholarship to attend St. John's medical college in New York this fall. He has a bright future ahead of him, and we are speaking into existence is full recovery so that he may fullfilll all that God has created for him to be. Thank you for your thoughts and concerns may God be with you all.

Hall's friend Charli Palmer also posted an update yesterday outlining the seriousness of the teen's condition at the time:

The young man is in ICU and breathing with a machine. He is aware that his parents, family and friends are present. We are praying for complete recovery and his lungs to be clear of the water and he will soon be able to breath on his own. Your well wishes and prayers are greatly appreciated as well as respect to his family during this ordeal.

The teen's aunt also posted the following update June 11 on the Dacula Patch Facebook page:

Hi. I am Jamyal's aunt and I am here with his parents at gwinnett medical center in lawrenceville. Jamyal's is conscious and responding. However, we are very concerned about his lungs. They are white and is breathing by machine now.
Jamyal's just graduated from Mill Creek as an honor student. He was accepted to St. John's in New York with an academic scholarship. Please pray for his full recovery so he can go to school this fall. He plans to be a doctor, His parents appreciate the thoughts and well wishes and will post soon.
