Fuel Pipeline Facility Burglarized

Police respond to alarm call at Dacula fuel pumping complex.

An alarm may have prevented damage or theft from a Colonial Pipeline facility on Pipeline Road in Dacula.

An officer was dispatched to the complex on March 22 in response to a business alarm. The officer found no sign of forced entry along the fence line surrounding the property. Once a Colonial Pipeline technician arrived, the officer checked inside the fenced area and discovered a building had been burglarized.

The door to a building containing electrical switch gear that runs pumps had been pried open, but nothing inside the structure appeared to be missing or damaged.

A company representative said thieves have burglarized the facility in the past in an attempt to steal copper. The representative said the alarm apparently scared the burglars away before any damage was done.

Surveillance footage failed to show anyone near the building due to the angle of the camera.

Alpharetta-based Colonial Pipeline delivers gasoline, kerosene, home heating oils, diesel fuels and national defense fuels through 5,519 miles of pipeline to 267 marketing terminals in the South and Eastern United States. Among the facilities served by Colonial Pipeline is Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta. The Dacula facility is a gasoline and fuel oil pumping station.

Police are also investigating a March 20 vehicle fire in an undeveloped subdivision on Stanley Road. Police were dispatched to the area after a passerby noticed a vehicle on fire and called authorities.

By the time police and fire officials arrived, the vehicle was entirely engulfed in flames. Police were unable to identify the registered owner of the vehicle due to the destruction of both the license plate and the vehicle identification number tag in the fire. The vehicle is believed to have been a blue Toyota.

The case is listed as active.
