Gwinnett County Police are investigating a significant theft of copper from the Gwinnett County Water Resources facility on Winder Highway.
The Dec. 28 theft at the Alcovy Pump Station in Dacula resulted in damage to several high-voltage generators and an air conditioning unit.
According to the police report, a water department employee arrived at the facility and discovered an open back gate. A padlock that had been used to chain the gate closed was missing. Upon inspecting the facility, the employee found that thieves had removed approximately $5,000 worth of copper. Copper was removed from an air conditioning unit on the backside of the building and multiple generators.
The employee told police that whoever stole the copper knew what they were doing “because no one was found dead on the scene.”
The case is listed as active.
