GCPD Searching for Burger King Bandit

Police say suspect may have robbed 20 different Burger Kings along with several KFCs and Taco Bell restaurants.

Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man wanted for questioning in connection with a string of armed robberies at numerous metro area fast food establishments.

According to police, the robber has struck at approximately 20 different Burger King restaurants as well as several KFCs and Taco Bell locations.

In Gwinnett alone, the robber has struck six times.

On the morning of June 2, the Burger King at 1600 Indian Trail Road in Lilburn was hit. The robber demanded cash at gunpoint and escaped with $900 in a Burger King paper bag.

Eight days later, the Burger King at 4111 Stone Mountain Highway in Snellville was robbed shortly after 6 a.m. in the morning. A gun-wielding suspect entered the store a short time after the restaurant opened and demanded employees empty the registers. The suspect then forced one of the employees to the back office where the safe was located. After emptying the safe and a cash drawer in the office, the suspect fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Later that morning, the Burger King at 5267 Stone Mountain Highway in Stone Mountain was also robbed. The manager had just received word of the first robbery when the suspect entered the store and pointed a long-barreled pistol at the head of one of the employees. The suspect demanded money from the safe and two cash registers before leaving the scene in a black passenger car.

The fourth Gwinnett robbery took place on June 17 at the Burger King located at 2111 Pleasant Hill Road in Duluth. In that incident, the suspect entered the store around 6:30 a.m. and took money from the registers before demanding that one of the employees open the safe. When the employee said the safe could not be opened until 7 a.m., the suspect fled.

The next Gwinnett robbery occurred around 9:30 p.m on June 29 at the Burger King located at 1690 Pleasant Hill Road. Like the other area robberies, the suspect entered the store and demanded cash at gunpoint.

The most recent Gwinnett robbery took place on July 10 at the Burger King located at 3580 Centerville Highway in Snellville. In that robbery, the suspect entered the store just after 7 a.m. and again demanded cash at gunpoint. The suspect escaped with over $600 from the registers and safe.

In addition to the Gwinnett robberies, similar incidents have occurred in Dekalb, Clayton, Fulton and Cobb counties.

“Through comparing surveillance footage and detailed accounts of the suspect’s description, it is believed that a single suspect is responsible for all of these incidents,” said GCPD public information officer Cpl. Jake Smith in a released statement.

The suspect is described as a dark-skinned black male approximately 5-foot-5 to 5 foot-9 with a muscular build and tattoos on at least one arm. The suspect has short hair, wears diamond earrings and carries a large black handgun. Witnesses have reported seeing the suspect leave multiple robbery locations in a 1997-2002 two-toned black and gray Buick Regal GS.

Burger King is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for these robberies.
