UPDATED: Suspect in GCPD SWAT Standoff Found Dead in Dacula Home

Suspect was reportedly armed and had refused to come out of his home.

UPDATED on July 18 at 10:37 p.m.: A standoff at a home in the 600 block of Swans Landing in Dacula has come to an end.

Gwinnett County Police officers and SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactical) team members responded to the home when an armed man refused to exit the residence after threatening his estranged wife during a domestic dispute.

Police attempted to convince the man to surrender peacefully, but the effort was not successful.

"The suspect was found inside a closet of an upstairs bedroom dead from an apparent gunshot wound," wrote GCPD public information officer Cpl. Ed Ritter in an email to media outlets. The gunshot wound was self-inflicted, Ritter added.

Police have not released the identity of the suspect.
