Grease Fire Damages Dacula Home

Fire officials say quick actions by police officer and homeowner prevented further damage.

A Dacula home sustained minor damage Thursday evening as a result of a grease fire.

Firefighters were called to the 2100 block of Glen Hope Lane in Dacula shortly after 7:30 p.m. Crews arrived within minutes and found moderate smoke in the house and a small smoldering fire on the stove. Firefighters extinguished the embers and cleared the smoke from the home.

The fire, which is believed to have been caused by food left unattended on the stove, started while the occupants were in the house. The occupants attempted to douse the flames with a portable fire extinguisher. A police officer who arrived at the scene before fire crews used a second extinguisher to help bring the flames under control.

β€œThe quick actions of the occupant and the police officer kept the fire from spreading past the kitchen,” said Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services public information officer Capt. Tommy Rutledge in a press release.

The flames caused minor damage to the kitchen stove and cabinets and sent smoke throughout the house. No one was injured.
