Hamilton Mill Chevron Robbed, Suspect Apprehended

Gwinnett County Police are investigating the possibility of a connection between the Chevron robbery and a similar armed robbery that occurred at the same location in October.

A 21-year-old Powder Springs man has been charged in connection with a Jan. 8 armed robbery at the Hamilton Mill Road Chevron.

According to police, a masked suspect entered the convenience store shortly after 3 p.m. on Jan. 8 and demanded money from the clerk. The suspect was reportedly armed with a black handgun and ordered the clerk to place the money in a see-through bag.

The suspect allegedly asked for all the 100 dollar bills saying, “I’m gonna shoot you if you don’t give me all of it. You’re going to die for just this little bit.”

After the clerk filled the bag, the suspect ran out of the store, crossed the street and left the scene in a burgundy-colored passenger car. A customer pulled into the parking lot as the suspect was leaving. After the clerk informed the customer about the robbery, the customer left to follow the suspect's vehicle.

By the time police arrived at the Chevron, the customer had called 911 and advised he was still following the suspect. The customer provided police with a tag number and said the suspect had pulled into the Longhorn’s at the Mall of Georgia. Officers arrived at the scene and took Jamal Calloway, of 5552 Pemrock Court in Powder Springs, into custody.

Surveillance video from the Chevron showed a masked suspect enter the store and point a pistol at the clerk. The suspect was wearing a hooded sweater, sweat pants and gloves. The video also showed the suspect leaving the store after the clerk filled the bag with money.

Calloway has been charged with armed robbery, second-degree forgery, theft by shoplifting and criminal attempt to commit a crime. He is being held at the Gwinnett County Detention Center without bond.

According to GCPD public information officer Cpl. Jake Smith, police are investigating the possibility of a connection between the Chevron robbery and a similar . In that instance, the clerk was in the process of closing the store for the night when a masked man armed with a semi-automatic pistol entered the business. The suspect demanded that the clerk empty the register and place the contents in a Publix shopping bag. At the time of the robbery, the suspect was wearing black mesh shorts with a red stripe, black and red sneakers, gloves and a gray hooded sweatshirt with the hood pulled over his head. The suspect escaped with approximately $4,500 in cash. 

Another similar . In that incident, an armed suspect wearing a hooded sweatshirt, white gloves and a ski mask demanded money from a store employee. The suspect placed the money in a plastic Kroger bag before running out the front door and across the parking lot. The suspect escaped with approximately $400 in cash.
