Homeowner Scares Off Burglar By Firing Blanks into Air

A look inside police incident reports in Dacula and areas nearby.

A Hoschton man said he fired blanks into the air to scare off a burglar.

The man, who lives on Forysth Park Lane, told Barrow County deputies he heard sounds come from the basement around 9 p.m. on Feb. 16,Β and then retrieved a firearm he had loaded with blanks, according to the incident report.

He found the basement door open and after locking the door and returning upstairs, he "saw a male run across the back yard to his storage building."

He turned the flood lights on from the back deck and told the man to come out. The man ran into the woods and the homeowner "fired blanks into the air to scare the guy away," according to the incident report.

A Gwinnett Sheriff's Office K-9 unit was called, but could not find the man.
