Lobster Tail Thief Avoids Apprehension

A thief with a taste for surf and turf avoided capture after fleeing from employees of the .

The store manager told police the suspect entered the store and picked up a package of crab legs and a 5-ounce package of lobster tails from the seafood counter. The suspect then hid the lobster tails inside his overalls and discarded the packaging, the manager said.

According to the police report, the store manager recognized the suspect from a previous incident in which the man had reportedly shoplifted a large beef loin by simply walking out of the store with it.

The manager advised that while store employees watched, the suspect began to walk towards the exit with the crab legs and concealed lobster tails. After noticing employees standing near the doors, the suspect got in a checkout line and paid for the crab legs with cash.

When the suspect tried to leave without paying for the lobster tails, store employees attempted to stop him. The manager said the suspect pushed past the employees, ran to his vehicle and backed out of the parking lot so that his license plate could not be read.

Store surveillance showed the suspect repeatedly adjusting the front of his overalls, but did not show the suspect actually concealing any merchandise.

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 6’ 2” tall and 225-pounds. At the time of the incident, the suspect was wearing light colored bib overalls, a red long sleeved t-shirt and a red baseball cap. The suspect left the scene in a dark green Dodge Caravan or Plymouth Voyager minivan with no hubcaps.

The stolen lobster tails were valued at $23.98.
