Man Believes Complaint About Newspaper Delivery Led to $14K in Thefts, Damage

A Dacula man suspects a complaint about the delivery of his morning paper may have prompted a disgruntled employee to retaliate.

The Harbins Road resident contacted the Gwinnett County Police on Jan. 5 after someone forced open his security gate, pushed the gate to the ground and stole two gate opener motors. The man said he is not sure who is responsible for the damage and theft, but believes the incident -- as well as a previous incident -- may be related to a complaint he made against the employee of a paper delivery company.

According to the Dacula man, the incidents began when he complained his morning paper was not being placed in the proper location. Soon after the initial complaint, the employee of the paper delivery company damaged his gate. The company agreed to fix the gate at their cost and indicated they would garnish the employee's wages for reimbursement. Shortly thereafter, an unknown person struck his gate again prompting the man to file a hit and run report with police.

The Dacula man provided police with contact information for the paper delivery company. The company, he said, would be able to provide information about the employee. The man estimated the cost to replace the gate motors and repair the gate would be approximately $14,400.
