Gwinnett County Police confirmed Monday afternoon that the man found dead Saturday in a wooded area is that of Stanley Scott Maddox, who had been missing for a month.
“The cause of his death is unknown; there were no obvious signs of trauma or gunshot wounds,” police spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith said in a media release at 2:30 p.m. Monday, March 31. “The autopsy is underway and should be completed today.”
Maddox’s body was discovered by a search party made up of family and friends Saturday before noon in a wooded area off Sudderth Road in Buford. The body was found facedown in a creek.
Family members told WSB-TV the area was around where police lost contact with Maddox during a chase in early March.
