Man Found Dead In Creek Identified as Missing Family Member

Police confirm the body of Stanley Scott Maddox was the one found Saturday.

Gwinnett County Police confirmed Monday afternoon that the man found dead Saturday in a wooded area is that of Stanley Scott Maddox, who had been missing for a month.

“The cause of his death is unknown; there were no obvious signs of trauma or gunshot wounds,” police spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith said in a media release at 2:30 p.m. Monday, March 31. “The autopsy is underway and should be completed today.”

Maddox’s body was discovered by a search party made up of family and friends Saturday before noon in a wooded area off Sudderth Road in Buford. The body was found facedown in a creek.

Family members told WSB-TV the area was around where police lost contact with Maddox during a chase in early March.
