A Lawrenceville man was arrested last week after an off-duty Gwinnett County police investigator recognized him as the suspect in an active rape investigation.
The investigator, who had been visiting with his family, saw Blair Malachi Washington, 20, skateboarding and asked an on-duty officer to verify Washington’s identity. The investigator advised Washington was a suspect in a rape investigation and had several outstanding warrants for his arrest.
When questioned by officers, Washington readily identified himself and was placed under arrest once the active warrants were confirmed.
Washington is facing charges in connection with a January sexual assault at Lake Sweetwater Apartments in Lawrenceville. According to police, Washington is believed to have forced his way into the apartment of a female in her late 20s. Washington allegedly attempted to rape the female before demanding her money and cell phone and stealing an Xbox.
Washington is currently being held without bond at the Gwinnett County Detention Center on charges of rape, battery, aggravated assault, aggravated sexual battery, burglary, interference with government property and three counts of obstruction.
