A Gwinnett County man is facing multiple charges in connection with a Nov. 26 accident that killed a student.
Georgia State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright said Zachary Morgan Holman, 16, and his sister Madison Holman, 11, were passengers in a 1998 Ford pickup truck being driven by Ralph Edward Whitmire Jr., 40, of Lawrenceville. According to Wright, Whitmire was traveling westbound on Bethany-Bowersville Road in Hart County at approximately 6:45 p.m. on Saturday when the vehicle left the roadway, hit a ditch and overturned. The vehicle came to rest upside down and all three occupants were ejected.

Holman died at the scene. Whitmire was taken to AnMed Medical Center in Anderson, S.C. where he was treated and released according to a hospital spokeswoman. Madison Holman is currently listed in fair condition at the Greenville Hospital System's Children's Hospital.
Whitmire has been charged with second-degree vehicular homicide, failure to maintain lane, seat belt violation, no proof of insurance and driving with suspended, canceled or revoked registration.
