New Driving Course to Be Built at Fire Academy

The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners approved the $1.3 million project on May 21.

This summer, crews will begin work on a new driving course at the Gwinnett Fire Academy in Dacula.

Firefighters will hone their driving skills by maneuvering fire engines, ladder trucks, ambulances and other emergency vehicles through the course. The project includes a heavy duty driving pad and a concrete block equipment storage building with a rooftop observation deck for instructors.

The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners awarded the $1.3 million construction contract to Southeastern Site Development Inc. on Tuesday, May 21. The SPLOST-funded project should be completed in spring of 2014.
