Series of Hit-and-Runs End in Fatality

Police responded to the scene of a fatal accident on U.S. Highway 78 and Walton Court in Snellville. Alcohol is believed to be a factor.

Gwinnett County Police responded to the scene of a fatal accident Wednesday night at the corner of U.S. Highway 78 and Walton Court in Snellville.

According to Cpl. Jake Smith, the accident began as a series of hit-and-runs in DeKalb County and ended in Snellville. 

The driver caused a fatal accident near Walton Court, police said, then crashed into a building.

According to an AJC.com report, police believe the arrested driver was driving drunk and caused at least 15 wrecks along his path.

The man may face charges in DeKalb and Gwinnett counties, including vehicular homicide, DUI of alcohol and reckless driving, police told the AJC.

The Gwinnett County Sheriff's Department shows that Michael Owen Snider, 70,  of Stone Mountain, was booked three minutes past midnight on Jan. 24 for DUI - alcohol, following too closely, reckless driving, vehicular homicide and serious injury by vehicle.
