Teen Driver Crosses Into Oncoming Lane 12 Times

DUI arrest after driver and passenger admit to ingesting pills and alcohol.

A Hoschton teen is facing multiple charges after an off-duty Gwinnett County Police officer witnessed her driving erratically on July 24.

The off-duty officer was traveling on Braselton Highway near Old Peachtree Road when he saw a 2007 Nissan Altima swerve into oncoming traffic.

The officer, who was driving an unmarked police car, called for a marked patrol car and then continued to follow the vehicle, which according to the officer almost struck two cars head on, struck the curb on Hog Mountain Road and crossed into the oncoming lane of traffic at least 12 times.

The off-duty officer followed the vehicle to the 1600 block of Quail Point Run in Hoschton where he attempted to speak with the driver, later identified as Kelsey Elliot, 17, of 1305 Smoke Hill Drive in Hoschton. Elliot reportedly refused to exit the vehicle. Upon arrival of a marked Gwinnett patrol car, Elliot and her passenger exited the vehicle. Upon questioning, the two admitted drinking alcohol and taking 17 cough and cold medication pills.

Due to the fact the two admitted ingesting a combination of pills and alcohol, the officer called for paramedics. After paramedics determined there was no medical emergency, the officer observed manifestations indicating Elliot was under the influence.

Elliot was placed under arrest and taken to Gwinnett Medical Center for state blood and urine testing prior to being transported to the Gwinnett County Detention Center. She was charged with DUI and reckless driving. Elliot was released later that day on a $2,431 bond.
