Phone Owners Send Thief a Warning Via Text Message

Phone went missing during a visit to Little Mulberry Park.

A Loganville couple decided to send a warning text message to the person who acquired the wife's phone during an April 21 visit to Little Mulberry Park in Dacula.

"The phone has been reported a stolen to GCPD, it has a tracking device on it and the police were tracking it," the text message stated according to the Gwinnett County Police report.

The woman explained the phone was in her bag while she was at the park and apparently fell out at some point. When she realized it was missing, she borrowed a phone from another park visitor and called her number. The call went straight to voicemail.

The officer advised the woman to notify her cell phone carrier of the incident, but asked the service be left on for approximately 24 hours to aid detectives in their investigation.

Later that evening, the woman contacted police again to advise that she and her husband -- using the GPS tracker on the phone -- had traced the phone's location to a Duluth address. At that point, her husband sent the thief the text message.
