UPDATE: Suspect, Victim in Dacula Homicide Identified

Egbert Courtney, 60, has been arrested in connection with the death of his wife, 58-year-old Sonia Courtney.

UPDATED March 1 at 7:35 p.m.

Police have now identified the woman killed in a Friday morning domestic-related homicide as 58-year-old Sonia Courtney.

Police were called to the 2600 block of Kachina Trail in the Apalachee Heritage subdivision in Dacula on Friday, March 1, at 10:07 a.m. by Courtney's husband, Egbert Courtney, 60. Upon arrival, officers found Sonia Courtney dead of an apparent gun shot wound.

Gwinnett County Police Department public information officer Cpl. Jake Smith said Egbert Courtney was cooperative and taken into custody without incident.

According to a media release issued Friday evening, detectives determined the shooting occurred in the wake of a domestic dispute. Smith indicated the details of the argument and shooting will not be released prior to trial.

Egbert Courtney has been charged with aggravated assault, felony murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime.  

He remains jailed without bond.

The victim's next of kin have been notified.
