Police Solve Twitter Impersonation Case

A 14-year-old boy has been identified as the person responsible for a series of sexually explicit tweets that led to the harassment of a Mill Creek High School student, CBS Atlanta reports.

Kerry Harrell and was using the social media service to post sexually explicit tweets.

According to the original police report, the daughter brought the account to her mother’s attention after learning about it from friends at school. The person impersonating the victim on Twitter reportedly used the account to describe sexual experiences and sexual acts.

Harrell reported the incident to Twitter, but was advised nothing could be done since the accounts had been subsequently taken down by the impersonator.

Harrell provided authorities with the names of the individuals who were following the account on Twitter. Harrell also learned the IP address of the person who created the first account was associated with an iPhone.

In , Harrell said she was determined to find out who was impersonating her daughter online.

“I don’t want them to get away with it. I don’t. I’m going to push until I find out who it is and what I can do next,” she said. “I’m just not going to give up.”

According to the CBS Atlanta report, investigators subpoenaed records from Twitter and determined a former schoolmate of Harrell’s daughter was behind the cyber-bullying. The juvenile will reportedly face charges of identity fraud.
