Prosecutor: Dragon Con Co-Founder's Twitter Use May Violate House Arrest Deal

Prosecutors are exploring whether a co-founder of the Atlanta sci-fi convention Dragon Con violated terms of his house arrest on child molestation charges by being active on Twitter. 

Three teenagers — two of them brothers — accused Ed Kramer of sexually abusing them, which sparked more than a decade-long legal battle that ended in December 2013 when Kramer pleaded guilty to three counts of child molestation, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

A Gwinnett County judge sentenced Kramer to 20 years, but it seemed likely he would serve five years or less in prison. Kramer is now serving 34 months under house arrest and will be on probation for the remainder of his sentence, the newspaper says. He will be a registered sex offender for life, as well.

Kramer, of Duluth, may have violated the terms of his deal by recently becoming active on Twitter, including following a teenage girl from Australia, reports the Gwinnett Daily Post.

Gwinnett County Attorney Danny Porter is investigating if Kramer violated the agreement by using Twitter. About two weeks ago, Kramer’s Twitter handle, @edwardekramer began tweeting, the newspaper say, sharing links to news stories covering topics like human rights and jury bias.

One of the people Kramer reportedly followed on Twitter is a user who identified herself as a 14-year-old girl from Brisbane, Australia, says the GDP.

That action could violate the plea agreement, which bars Kramer from having any contact “either direct or indirect with any person under the age of 16,” the paper said.

Kramer has no controlling interest in Dragon Con; his financial stake was purchased last year, the paper said.
