The Gwinnett Swiftwater Rescue Team was called out to the lake at Tribble Mill Park on Memorial Day after park-goers reported seeing unusual behavior from a man who was going in and out of the water.
“The man appeared to be delusional and was talking to himself,” reported Gwinnett Fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge in a press release.
The incident happened after 4 p.m. on Monday, May 26.
Rutledge said the man swam out into the water approximately 150 feet. A Gwinnett Police officer tried to talk him out, but then boarded a rescue boat with firefighters to reach the man. He swam back to shore as the boat approached.
“He was transported to the hospital for evaluation and will likely be taken into police custody,” Rutledge said.
